Arenys de Mar
The town of Arenys de Mar is located in the region of Maresme. Its coastline has extensive beaches of thick sand surrounded by mountains reaching the sea, announcing the nearby Costa Brava.
The wealth generated by maritime activity since the foundation of Arenys allowed the building of a town of great architectural beauty still visible thanks to the conservation efforts of its inhabitants. The council has published several walking routes that take visitors to every secret corner of the town.
The port of Arenys is one of the most important on the Catalan coast. It is at the heart of the long maritime history and tradition of this town. The port has a large space devoted to sport boats, with modern facilities to accommodate visiting vessels.
Fish leaving Arenys' fish market is highly rated in Catalonia, especially its prawns. Catalan cuisine can be enjoyed throughout the many restaurants in the area, which benefit from the excellent quality of local products. Do not miss the annual gastronomic event, "Calamarenys”. During the month of October, around twenty restaurants across the region organise activities related to cooking squid.
If you visit Arenys in summer, you can join the inhabitants as they celebrate the Saint Zenon festival during the first week in July. There are other celebrations throughout the year where you can join in the festivities such as Saint Roc (16/08), Saint John's Eve (23/06), the Spring meeting of hand lace makers, the Summer Jazz Festival or the “flowers and puppets", where Arenys' public spaces blossom for a weekend in May.
The location of Arenys allows easy access to neighbouring regions. A trip to Barcelona, a stroll around Girona or discovering the Costa Brava... If you prefer to take a break from the beaches, you can take a walk around Montseny National Park, visit the Renaissance gardens of Santa Clotilde in Lloret de Mar, spend the day amongst nature at Vertical Forest or enjoy water activities in Marineland.
